Sonnet

Shakespeare Sonnet

This is a sonnet and I don't think it is by Shakespeare though he did create the perfect sonnet according to history but here is Sonnet XXIII!

As an unperfect actor on the stage,
Who with his fear is put beside his part,
Or some fierce thing replete with too much rage,
Whose strength's abundance weakens his own heart;
So I, for fear of trust, forget to say
The perfect ceremony of love's rite,
And in mine own love's strength seem to decay,
O'ercharged with burthen of mine own love's might.
O! let my looks be then the eloquence
And dumb presagers of my speaking breast,
Who plead for love, and look for recompense,
More than that tongue that more hath more express'd.
O! learn to read what silent love hath writ:
To hear with eyes belongs to love's fine wit.

I looked back over Romeo and Juliet and noticed that there first conversation has something similar to this sonnet. Take a look!
Romeo
Juliet

If I profane with my unworthiest hand
This holy shrine, the gentle sin is this;
My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready to stand
To smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss
Good pilgrim, you do wrong your hand too much,
Which mannerly devotion shows in this;
For saints have hands that pilgrams' hands do touch
And palm to palm is holy palmer' kiss
Have saints lips, and holy palmers too?
Ay, pilgrim, lips that they must use in prayer.
O, then, dear saint, let lips so what hands do!
They pray; grant thou, lest faith turn to despair.
Saints do not move, though grant for prayers' sake.
Then move not while my prayer's effect I take
Thus from my lips, by thine my sin is purged.
Then have my lips the sin that they have took
Sin from my lips? O trespass sweetly urged!
Give me my sin again.
You kiss by th' book.

*The Romeo and Juliet Sonnet I found in my copy of Shakespeare Romeo and Juliet on pages 30-31 from line 95-112 I don't own either of these sonnets.*

I'm just a man

In my honors class in literature we finished reading Fahrenheit 451 (very good book by the way). For our final project we had to do something creative to show the conflict in the book. I wrote a song by re-writing the lyrics to the song Superman (It's not easy) by Five For Fighting. I wrote the song in the point of view of the main character Montag. If you have read the book you will understand the song more just like the original song Superman (It's not easy). I hope you enjoy and the numbers in the parentheses are the page numbers of that line in the book Fahrenheit 451 by the way.

I'm just a man

Lyrics by Stokes-The-Mighty and Ray Bradbury with Five For Fighting
Music from Superman (It's not easy) by Five For Fighting

Stay up in the night
To put up fire's light
This is what my life
Is turned out to be like
I'm just a man
Who lives in a world
Where TVs and programs come to life
And it's not easy to be me
I'll hold onto the world tight someday. (162)
I've got a finger on it now; that a beginning. (162)
I'm just a man
Who lives in a world
Where I don't need to read or write or learn
I'm just a man
Who knows it's not right
But some girls still think in the dark of night
That's not easy for me now
Some think all ideas are bad
They might be right
Though some still talk at night
And they're not crazy or anything
Many people idle away their life
Some still live in a shadow of what it used to be
But you can't make people listen. (153)
They have to come 'round on their own time, (153)
wondering what happened and why the world blew up under them. (153)
And I used to say
It was a pleasure to burn. (3)
But it's not easy to burn them now!

*I don't own music to the song and I did not come up with the quoted lines, those are from Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. I just wrote some lines and arranged them to the music.*

Book Recommend

Hello Readers,

Hello readers Stokes the mighty here to recommend a book. I got it from a book fair at my sister's school. It is called Palace of Mirrors. Here is a quote from the book: "Somewhere in the world I have a tiara in a little box. It is not safe for me to wear it .... It is not safe for me to even tall anyone who I really am. But I know-I have always known."

Cecilia knows that she is not just another peasant girl; she is actually the true princess, in hiding until the evil forces that killed her parents are vanquished. A commoner named Desmia is on the throne as a decoy. As she gets older, Cecilia finds it harder to study statesmanship and palace protocol secretly at night ans then pretend that she has nothing on her mind other than scrubbing the gruel stains out of her best apron by day. Cecilia knows that it is time to take charge. Along with her best friend, Harper, she flees to the capital city, determined to reclaim her throne and face the danger head on. When Harper and Cecilia reach the famed palace of mirrors they discover complications: Princess Desmia believes an entirely different version of the story.
Margaret Peterson Haddix author of Just Ella writes an amazing story where a princess in hiding and a pretender to the throne discover that nothing is as it appears.

I really enjoyed reading this story and loved how it isn't just for girls but for boys as well.

Recomened Book

Hello Readers,

I just finished a book this past week: The Mark of Athena. It is book three in the Hero's of Olympus series by Rick Riordan. It is a sequel series to The Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. If you haven't read any of either of those series, I really recommend them. They are about a boy named Percy who finds out he is the son of Poseidon the Greek god of the sea. If you like Greek myths and modern time these book are for you.
If you have been reading both series The Mark of Athena is very good. When both Roman and Greek camps finally meet the seven go on a dangerous quest to Rome while Annabeth is on a quest of her own from her mom. She must fallow the mark of Athena that many other children of Athena have done and not succeeded. Will they survive the quest or will they "fail to save what matters most in the end?" I hope if you read this book you will enjoy it as much as I have.

Welcome Readers

Hello blog readers,

My name is Stokes the Mighty. I started this blog to post stories or poems I write, talk about stories and poems I have read, and suggest any for you to read. I hope you will enjoy this blog. I started it off with a poem I wrote in my Foundations of Literature Honors class. My teacher had us write a list of thing we are thankful for. Then we were to pick one and write any type of poem on it. We did this assignment a few days before thanksgiving as you can tell by writing a list of things we are thankful on. There is no title on my poem for a reason. Can you tell what I'm talking about in my poem? If you can please comment on it.
Along with writing about stories and poems I will also post things on some music and movies but most will be about literature.
I really hope you enjoys reading and post positive comments about my blog. I think that writing negative things about people is just downright rude and offends others that like to hear or read about that person.
If you read anything or write anything you would like me to put on my blog please send it to me. If you write anything I will give you full credit. Please send it to me with the information you want me to put on you, whether it be your full name or just you first. I do not need your full email, phone number, etc. I respect your privacy. I do not want you to feel like I'm steeling anything from you either.
Please recommend my blog to others. I really enjoy hearing that people read my blog. Thank you all for reading.

A Poem

One line, Two lines
You later want to erase
Keep sakes
Of times
You used
To enjoy
A cresant moon
Turned on its side
A virus
That's easily spread
You may hoot
Snort
Or sound
Like a woodpecker
Some may even
Be anoyed
But it lights
Up a room
Gravity hits
And this refleax is
Unstoppable
You can't hide it
You may
Want to want to erase them
But
These memories

Last forever
